“...The band impresses by its Latin sonority with sharp guitars. Something between Mano Chao and Nação Zumbi with lyrics in Portuguese, Spanish and English. The highlight is the more than powerful voice of Juliana, who started the show singing a capella and paralyzed the audience."

Francisco, el Hombre

Francisco, el Hombre takes their name from a legendary character of Colombian folklore: an archetype of the wandering minstrel. Their Latin rhythms and gypsy wanderlust embody a global perspective they describe as "noisy transamerican transculturalism.” They’ve played in city squares, jungles, venues large and small, and at important festivals in Africa, Europe, and North and South America. They’ve released several albums, and in 2016 received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Music in Portuguese Language. Their energy is contagious wherever they play and whether they sing in Portuguese, Spanish, or English. Behind the music is a focus on socio-political, feminist, and equality issues, but their latest album RASGACABEZA (2019) is about rupture. It is abstract and electronic with stray audio samples captured during their tours around the world, from the web, the radio, and on the streets. It’s a more aggressive and chaotic music defying any preconceptions of the band’s limits. A live show from Francisco, el Hombre is a whirlwind immersive experience that can take one from tears to screams to laughter. This is the band’s first U.S. tour and we are beyond excited to present them at The Drake in Amherst.
