Northampton High School has two select vocal ensembles under the direction of choral teacher, Susan Dillard: The Northamptones a cappella group and the NHS Chamber Choir. Both groups meet and rehearse during the school day (Northamptones in the fall semester and Chamber Choir in the spring). These groups perform around the community at events such as First Night Northampton and the Local Vocal Chord Bowl, among many others. While the two groups are similar in size, the repertoire differs between them. The Northamptones follow a collegiate a cappella style meaning the group performs pop, rock, and jazz songs from the 20th century to today. Chamber Choir, on the other hand, sings repertoire that spans from the Early Music era, Renaissance, Classical and Romantic periods to the 20th century, including styles such as jazz, spirituals, and even pop arrangements. Both groups are thrilled to join the other performers here today at Bombyx!
