Dos Santos is a Chicago-based alt-Latinx band known for their powerful live performances and their progressive compositional layering of various Latin/American musics. The core band consists of drummer Daniel Villarreal, percussionist Peter “Maestro” Vale, bassist Jaime Garza, guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Nathan Karagianis, and multi- instrumentalist/singer/lyricist Alex Chavez.
Their elasticity & consistency in live performance and their recorded output have garnered them wide attention as one of Chicago's most potent, impactful bands. Collectively raised through the pedagogy of American popular and traditional Latin music, their future-minded sound gestures forward into an idealized new progressive American music, as rooted in Chicago as it is communicable with the world.
Dos Santos made their debut in May 2013. The group’s five members have their own storied careers in a diversity of styles—from jazz, R&B/soul, traditional Mexican folk, punk, cumbia, salsa. Their highly-anticipated new album, City of Mirrors is cinematic in its journey, reflecting sounds from across the Americas combined with compelling poetic narratives. Its 13 tracks consolidate the band’s unique identities, creative and cultural roots, and their penchant for honoring traditional Latinx music with contemporary compositional expressions and production techniques. It achieves the band’s mission to push against their own musical boundaries while also exploring themes of social justice, migration, and contemporary human struggle.
