Pianist and composer Clifton “Jerry” Noble, Jr.’s musical compositions and arrangements are requested and performed by singers and instrumentalists around the world. Between 1987 and 2019, he held the position of Staff Accompanist in the Smith Music Department; he also served as pianist for the Smith College choral ensembles. Jerry regular performs and records traditional jazz with clarinetist Bob Sparkman and his wife Kara, and he is a sought-after accompanist and collaborator with other musicians in genres from classical and art music to bluegrass and rock’n’roll, and he writes music in a similarly broad range of musical styles. Since his retirement from Smith, he has become an increasingly active supporter of local musical organizations and concert series, including Sevenars, Mohawk Trail Concerts, the North Hall Concert Series, and the Tuesday Morning Music Club. He holds music degrees from Amherst College (BA 1983) and Smith College (MA 1988).
