Blaque Dynamite (aka Mike Mitchell) first hit the drums at the age of 2 playing in church. His passion for jazz kicked in at 14 at the renowned Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts in Dallas (alums include Norah Jones, Erykah Badu, Roy Hargrove.) “He’s a jazz drumming prodigy… he is a powerhouse behind the kit!" said the Dallas Observer.
By 17 he had performed and toured with Kamasi Washington, Stanley Clarke, and other biggies. Fast forwarding, the Grammy nominated artist Blaque Dynamite has toured five of the seven continents of the world. He has received 14 DownBeat Music Awards. The Blue Note in NYC says “No words can describe this man’s extraordinary power, speed, velocity, feel and groove.” We are beyond excited to welcome him to The Drake (on Juneteenth Weekend) for a show that’s not to be missed.
