Jorge Luis Pacheco

Cuba has long shared its great cultural riches with the world, including some of the most incredible pianists on the planet. A fresh new face has emerged and is making waves with his ‘flying hands’ and a unique style that presents a new voice in jazz. Hailing from Havana, Cuba – Jorge Luis Pacheco is fast becoming a seasoned veteran, having performed at some of the most respected venues in the world. From Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York to the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Pacheco wowed the crowd at New York’s Blue Note Jazz Festival and gained notoriety at the legendary Apollo Theater for the Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony honoring Herbie Hancock. Having collaborated with the likes of Wynton Marsalis and Arturo O’Farrill, this young talent expresses charisma and exciting energy in his live performances. Pacheco is a virtuoso pianist, composer, arranger, percussionist, and vocalist, and Monty Alexander exclaims he “defies genre.”

Winner of the 2007 JoJazz Award in Havana, Pacheco is also the winner of the “Audience Award” and the “Jury Award” at the 2014 Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition in Switzerland. In 2017 Pacheco also won the award for the best performance and soloist in the “Made in New York” Jazz Competition in New York City, Pacheco’s music is a confluence of Cuban jazz, American jazz, and classical music with a measure of contemporary pop to keep things up to date. He has a Master’s Degree in Composition from the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana (ISA).

Jorge is a leading pianist from the new generation of jazz in Cuba. His music is a confluence of Cuban jazz, Cuban and Afro Cuban music, American jazz, and classical music with a measure of contemporary pop and soul to keep things up to date. He’s collaborated with the likes of Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Arturo O’Farrill, Lenny White, Dave Weckl, and Richie Goods. He is also a composer and a singer with a Masters in Composition from the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana (ISA). He has performed all over the world in clubs and jazz festivals, from Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C, the Apollo Theater in Harlem, to the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Israel, among others. Jorge has also received numerous international awards. He is a Cuban national currently living in Germany, though he continues to spend much of the year in Cuba.
